Indian government plans cut-price retail drug stores

The Indian government plans to set up generic drugstores across the country to facilitate access to affordable medicines for the poor.
Under the proposal, the government expects to open generic stores, initially one in each district through NGOs, the Red Cross and hospitals that are willing to work on a no-profit basis. A joint forum consisting of public sector firms, NGOs, and industry bodies is being constituted to implement the proposal.
